In 2015, at the request of local residents, Worplesdon Parish Council purchased Harry’s Meadow from Guildford Borough Council. Historically, this five acre field has been used primarily by dog walkers and by the local community for events.
In recognition of the impacts of Climate Change, the Parish Council is seeking to convert half of the field into a wildflower meadow. To assist with this task, the Parish Council commissioned an Ecological Report 2022-08 – Harry’s Meadow_Jacobs Well Ecology Survey Report with recommendations on how best to manage the meadow to improve biodiversity at this location.
It is the Council’s intention to also create one, or possibly two interpretation boards to further raise the profile of the flora and fauna at this site; to encourage community involvement, and to discourage dog fouling, which can have serious consequences for those maintaining the meadow.
Two trail wildflower meadow areas are to be created this year. Each will measure 15m x 10m and will be protected by chestnut pailing to fit in with the rural surroundings. Anyone wishing to be involved with this project should contact cllr.jonathan.snowball@worplesdon-pc.gov.uk in the first instance.
