About the Event

An Introduction to Space4Nature

Discover how cutting-edge satellite technology, ground surveys, and citizen science are transforming the way we map and preserve nature corridors in Surrey.

Join Daniel Banks, Citizen Science Officer at Surrey Wildlife Trust, for an inspiring introduction to the Space4Nature project. This three-year initiative, funded by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, brings together the University of Surrey, Surrey Wildlife Trust, Buglife, and the Painshill Park Trust to monitor and improve wildlife habitats using Earth Observation – a powerful combination of satellite technology and artificial intelligence.

 What you’ll learn:

  • How satellite data is being used to map Surrey’s habitats.

  • The role of citizen science surveys in identifying key species for preservation.

  • How these insights are helping to connect and protect critical wildlife habitats.

Meet the Speaker: Daniel Banks

With a lifelong passion for the natural world, Daniel brings a wealth of expertise in ornithology, ecology, and citizen science. From mapping raptor nests in South Africa to tracking bird migrations across Greece and the UK, his journey has been driven by a dedication to understanding and preserving biodiversity. Now at Surrey Wildlife Trust, Daniel is empowering communities to take action for nature.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how you can contribute to the future of Surrey’s wildlife.
