Covid Afternoon Tea Party

Worplesdon Parish Council was delighted to host a Covid Thank You Afternoon Tea Party on 1 August 2021 in the Fairlands Community Centre, to thank the numerous volunteers who so selflessly rallied to help out many vulnerable people within the community during the global pandemic.  The Council was deeply touched by the amazing work carried out by the volunteers, some of which continues to date.  It clearly demonstrated the resilience of the Worplesdon community during unprecedented times.

Beautiful table arrangements and a stunning arrangement of flowers to welcome in the volunteers, in vintage colours to complement the tables decorations, were provided by Mollie May-Flower (a local florist).  One lucky person per table was fortunate to ‘win’ the table decoration to take home with them.  The stunning ‘welcome’ arrangement was raffled off.

Delicious food was prepared by Not Just Hampers, another local business.  Who also contributed two hampers which were raffled off.  The raffles – with the help of Cllr Brigitte Ahier – raised £185, which will be handed to the Royal Surrey Charity fund for NHS staff.

Wonderful jazz music was provided by Andrew, Marianne and Roger and Cllr Bob McShee entertained everyone with his Magic Bob act.

Wendy Grimmond and A Nice Cup of Tea provided a charming array of vintage china – which greatly enhanced the event.  Bespoke cake tier stands were also created by Chris White.

The Council would like to thank its staff for organising this event, the behind the scenes helpers for their gratefully appreciated assistance on the day and, finally, the FLGCA for their generous financial contribution towards this event and for providing the hall free of charge.
